Chess has a unique way of bringing people together. It doesn’t matter if you are six or sixty. When you sit across the board, it’s all about strategy and focus. That’s exactly what the Communitie Chess Carnival was all about. It was a rapid tournament held on 9th February at the Draper Startup House in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. It was organised by the Communitie Chess Club in collaboration with Ekagra Chess Academy, ChessBase India, and Chess.com India. The event saw about 95 players come together to celebrate their love for the game.
What made this event special was its inclusivity! Whether it was a 6-year-old who was just learning how the pieces move or a veteran player with years of experience, there was a spot for everyone in this tournament. For the kids, it was a chance to test their skills and learn. For the adults, it was an opportunity to reconnect with their passion. And for everyone, it was an occasion to enjoy and meet others who share that passion.
The tournament featured different categories like Open, Below 1500 Rated, Unrated, U7, U9, U12, U15, Women, and Veteran. This ensured that participants competed against others with similar skills or ages and had a fair shot at winning. Of course, no tournament is complete without exciting prizes! The Chess Carnival had a prize pool of over Rs. 40,000 including gift hampers. Some of the winners also received Chess.com subscriptions as part of their rewards.
The format was fast and exciting with 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move. They followed a Swiss format to give everyone multiple opportunities to test their skills. But the main purpose was beyond competition. They just wanted to host a fun yet professional tournament. In their words, their goal was to “connect like-minded people and let them do what they love the most.” It was an event where chess lovers could connect, share their passion, and simply have a great time. The organizers put a lot of thought into making this event a positive experience for everyone.
The final results of the tournament were as follows:
One of the most exciting outcomes of the Chess Carnival was how it sparked interest in building a local chess club culture. For a long time, Hyderabad has had chess enthusiasts, but events like this show the potential for something bigger. It wasn’t just a one-day event. They want to promote chess and build a strong chess culture in the city.
Events like this are so important because they do more than just promote the game. They build a communitie! They show that chess is not just about grandmasters playing in elite tournaments. It can also be people of all ages and skill levels coming together to enjoy the game.
