Kushagra Mohan decimates 2nd G H Raisoni Memorial Amravati Rapid Rating Open 2025
IM Kushagra Mohan scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 2nd G H Raisoni Memorial Amravati Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. 13-year-old Nihaan Pohane scored 8/9 to secure second place. Eight players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut was placed third according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G H Raisoni University in Amravati, Maharashtra on 9th February 2025. Kushagra wins eight in-a-row
IM Kushagra Mohan scorched the field by scoring eight wins in-a-row. He had a full point lead heading into the final round. A draw was enough for him to become a clear champion and that's what he did against Nachiket Paturkar. Nihaan Pohane defeated IM Ravi Teja S to finish second. Shaurya Harshal Dhwangale drew with CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut and the latter was placed third. A week after this, Kushagra also went on to win his second tournament of the year - Chronicles of Checkmate Festival 2025 in Sri Lanka. We will mention it in detail in a separate report.
A total of 364 players including two IMs took part from various places all over the country. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G H Raisoni University in Amravati, Maharashtra on 9th February 2025. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
