Soham Bhattacharyya clear first at Silver Lake Open 2024
Top seed Soham Bhattacharyya scored 7/9 to win Silver Lake Open A 2024. Soham finished a half point ahead of the field. FM Onno Elgersma (NED) and WFM Erdenebayar Khuslen (MGL) scored 6.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively. Soham drew with the eventual runner-up Onno in Round 7 and defeated the second runner-up, Erdenebayar in the first round. The total prize fund was RSD 507000. The top three prizes were RSD 150000 + trophy, 90000 and 65000 each. The tournament was organized by Мunicipality Veliko Gradište and Chess Club VGSK at Sport Hall Srebrno Jezero, Silver lake in Serbia from 23rd to 30th June 2024. This was Soham's was first ever individual rating tournament triumph.
Top seed wins his first individual rating tournament
Soham Bhattacharyya (2477) started with two wins. Then he lost his third round game against Uros Slavkovic (SRB, 1916). After that, he scored 5/6 to finish clear first. Category B (<2200) witnessed the participation of 129 players from eight countries.


Soham Bhattacharyya's (2477) best win of the event was against Ilgar Mehmetoglu (TUR, 1896) in Round 8. He sacrificed an exchange and used the power of pawns on the kingside to win the game.

A total of 17 players including two IMs took part from six countries across the world in this eight-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open A (>2100) tournament. It was organized by Мunicipality Veliko Gradište and Chess Club VGSK at Sport Hall Srebrno Jezero, Silver lake in Serbia from 23rd to 30th June 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
